Count your people, then count your gear. Four seats at $80 a day handles most groups. Six seats at $95 handles a family with rods and a cooler, two couples going to dinner, or anybody who refuses to make two trips. The rule that settles it: everybody rides in a seat, so six people means a six-seater.
Side by side
| 4-seater | 6-seater | |
|---|---|---|
| Seats | 4 | 6 |
| Per day | $80 | $95 |
| 2 days (minimum) | $160 | $190 |
| 5 days | $400 | $475 |
| 7 days (10% off) | $504 | $598.50 |
| Coolers, rods, groceries | Enough for a couple | Comfortable for a group |
| Parking and turning | Easier | Still easy, just longer |
| Best for | Couples, small families | Groups, gear, everybody at once |
Prices shown are the rental fee, plus taxes.
The difference is $15 a day. Over a long weekend that is $30, which is less than the cost of one person staying behind.
Who actually needs six seats?
A family of five or six. Four seats and five people is not a solution, it is a problem you will have twice a day.
Two couples. Going to dinner together is the entire reason to rent a cart instead of moving two cars.
A fishing party with gear. Rods, a cooler, a bait bucket, a bag of ice and four people fit in a 6-seater without anybody holding something in their lap the whole way to the ramp.
Anyone with a dog. A dog takes a seat's worth of space and has opinions about it.
When is four enough?
Most of the time. A couple, a couple with a kid, two people and a cooler. If your usual load is two adults and a small amount of stuff, the 4-seater is easier to park and cheaper every day you have it.
Four is also plenty for the classic Welaka run: down to the Welaka Boat Ramp in the morning with rods and a cooler, back for lunch, a stop at Welaka Fish, Crab and Bait, then out again at dusk.
Two 4-seaters or one 6-seater?
Two 4-seaters give you eight seats and two drivers for $160 a day. One 6-seater gives you six seats and one driver for $95.
Book two carts when you have seven or eight people, or when your group genuinely splits up during the day. Book one 6-seater when you are all going to the same places at the same times, which is what most groups actually do on a river weekend.
Remember that every driver of every cart has to be 21 or older with a valid license and their own auto insurance. Two carts means two qualified drivers, minimum.
What about gear?
Both carts carry more than people expect. The 6-seater carries it without anybody's knees in a cooler.
Things that ride fine: rods, a hard cooler, a bait bucket, a bag of ice, groceries, folding chairs, a dog. Things that do not: anything that has to be held in a lap while moving, and anything hanging off the back.
Secure what you bring. A 25 mph cart on a rough patch of road will teach you which cooler lid was not latched.
Seat belts and kids
Our carts are street-legal low-speed vehicles, so seat belts are required equipment and everybody wears one. Kids ride in seats, never standing, never on the back rail. Child restraint rules that apply in a car apply here.
Tell us ages when you book. If you have small kids, that is worth a sentence on the phone so the cart you get fits the family.
How many people can legally ride?
One person per available seat. Four in the 4-seater, six in the 6-seater. Florida's rules and our rental agreement both prohibit standing or riding on the back rail while the cart is moving.
There is no version of this where seven people ride in a 6-seater. Book the second cart.
